SEEDS FOR BRUSSELS

Carthusian pink
(Dianthus carthusianorum)

Carthusian pink

Dianthus carthusianorum; Clusterhead pink; Carthusian pink; Oeillet des Chartreux

Why we chose it for Belgium

It attracts pollinating insects to the garden (especially butterflies) and it's a great honey-bee food plant. Ideal for rock gardens, green roofs, path edges and flower meadows, it's suitable for cutting and stays green in winter.

It's in decline in many regions, even if it may appear locally abundant. Characteristic of a habitat of priority importance for Europe (calcareous grasslands)
, it's threatened by the degradation of its habitat following the abandonment of extensive grazing.
